Peace, I leave with you, my
peace I give you.... John 14:27 |
Chaplain
Gene Roddenberry, an Ordained Minister, has been with the Center
for the past nine years, first as a Bible study volunteer with his wife,
Elaine, before joining the family as full-time Chaplain. Gene has a love
for the elderly, enjoys listening to the residents and is always available
for counsel with residents, friends and family members. He begins each day
in prayer, then leads residents and staff in Daily Devotionals as well as
the Resident Hall Prayer. Gene spends time with residents one-on-one where
scriptures, music and prayer are shared with those who are unable to
attend the daily Bible study or church service. Brother Gene has been an
inspiration to many family and staff members as well. He labors indeed and
in prayer for the glory of God. |

- Faith,
Guidance and Understanding
often becomes an important part of many people's lives. Our
nondenominational Chaplains are present to comfort, console and bring
about a prayerful presence to situations. They offer pastoral
counseling to patients, family, friends and staff. It is their mission
to bring about the presence of a loving God through one's action.
-
- This
may be accomplished in a number of ways:
- ·
Sharing the grief and loss of a loved one.
- ·
Facilitation the communications among facility staff and/or family
members.
- ·
Talking about critical decisions
- ·
Offering spiritual comfort through prayer and petitions to God.
- ·
Daily, room-to-room visits.
-
- In
all circumstances, the chaplains present themselves as servants to others and allow
the Spirit of God to work through them in whatever method He chooses.
-
- Our
Chaplain is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Patients and
residents may contact Gene at 863-763-2226 ext.136, or you may ask for
him at any of the facilities.
-
- Volunteer
Chaplains are present to offer support and informative
services. They are a group of dedicated and blessed community
individuals who donate their time assisting and facilitating a
patient's spiritual needs. They want to make your stay as comfortable
as possible and always have an open ear and a generous heart to
listen.

This is an important task
Chaplain Roddenberry takes to heart. He has been instrumental in placing
of signs on main arteries coming into Okeechobee which greet visitors with
the words; "Welcome To God's County". Gene also helped organize
the annual Prayer Walk in which local people, wearing bright green shirts,
walk together while praying for individuals they encounter. The
"Walks" have become so popular the program has expanded to the
fourth Tuesday of every month and walkers may cover any part of the County
they wish. In addition, Gene makes frequent visitations to patients in the
local hospital. |
